Soft Washing vs Pressure Washing
There is a lot of new terminology in the exterior cleaning world today, and one term being used more and more frequently is “soft washing”. Let’s look into soft washing and see how it differs from the traditional term of pressure washing.
Pressure Washing
is using high pressure typically 3000 to 4000 psi to clean a surface by blasting away the pollutants. This works best on concrete as the pressure removes the dirt and mold from the concrete, but the concrete is undamaged because, well, its concrete and very strong. Using this cleaning method on vinyl and wood houses, well it can clean it sure, but it can also damage it. So what do we do?
Soft Washing
is using a chemical application to kill any organic matter on any material, and then using low pressure, usually 500-900 psi, to rinse the chemical and debris off of the material. This is the preferred method of cleaning any exterior vertical structure surface as it is less harmful to the material used for construction of the structure. Some examples of surfaces to soft wash, not pressure wash, are vinyl siding, hardy board, composite boarding and decking, wooden decking, and stucco.
